HSW Certified Handler Training 1 day course January 2019

Duration: 9.30am – 4.30pm. Lunch provided.
Cost: $475 + GST per person payable on or before the day of the course.



A comprehensive training course for site managers, supervisors, charge hands, and any personnel responsible for Class 6.1A and 6.1B  hazardous substances in quantities that exceed specified thresholds.
The course is professionally presented in a clear-cut, multi-media format that includes a training handbook with practical assessment exercises followed by a short test.


Certified Handler Compliance Certificate issued in accordance with regs. 4.1 and 6.23 and reg 9.3, 13.9 or 14.3 of the Health & Safety at Work (Hazardous Substances) Regulations 2017.

Duration of certification

5 years maximum. Periodic refresher training at shorter intervals by arrangement.


  • Familiarisation with the structure and purpose of the HSW Act and associated regulations.
  • Understanding of legal responsibilities under the HSW Act: compliance orders, offences, defences, penalties and liabilities.
  • Ability to describe the classifications, properties and controls of hazardous substances.   
  • Assessment of adverse effects, precautions and emergency procedures for substances attendees use in their workplace.
  • Use of SDS in attendees’ workplace.
  • Hazardous Substance storage requirements, warning signage and emergency response planning.


  • Statement of Training and Experience to be completed for each attendee by employer or supervisor.
  • 70% pass in written test.
  • Knowledge of HSW Act and regulations, legal responsibilities.
  • Competence in safe handling of Class 6.1A and 6.1B hazardous substances in the workplace.
  • Certified Handlers become “key reference people” in their workplace.
